according to a study by the international research firm Canalys , India takes the second place on the podium and stands behind China, With 40 million smartphone sold in 2017. The smartphone market in India is largely dominated by manufacturers Samsung and Xiaomi, which account for almost 50% of sales in 2017. With the recent establishment of local Apple production factory, this balance could change.

While Samsung remains the industry leader in India with 9.4 million units sold in 2017, Chinese Xiaomi serves as a serious indirect competitor for the Korean firm with a 290% increase in sales in India and 9.2 million of units sold in 2017. “Indirect” because the two firms do not evolve in the same range: Samsung attract the rich Indians with high-range smartphones while Xiaomi on the trend of smartphones at a reduced price.

The economic transformations of the country have led new builders to bet on India. Apple distributes in particular its high-range smartphones produced locally since this year. Winning bet: The company produced around 450,000 units in the third quarter of 2016 and doubled its production volume to 900,000 units in one year in the third quarter of 2017.
